The Heartlands
A mighty collection of nations within the heart of Faerun, so vast that it includes almost every biome known to its many adventurers. The feudalistic Cormyr, the diverse Dalelands, the entrepreneurial Sembia, and the mystical Cormanthor form this area.
Cormanthor
A forest of towering trees home to the largest elven centralized population in the Heartlands. Much of Cormanthor is known to its neighbors through long-standing myths and legends. Its greatness once rivaled the lesser gods until numerous cataclysms affected its connection to the Weave. The latest has caused all trade—which normally included vast riches and magic-infused goods—to cease completely. An increase in elven families settling in Cormyr over the past two decades suggest that Cormanthor has suffered greatly, but few who enter the woods live to return with tales.
Dalelands
A loose collection of tiny valleys called dales, each with its own territory, governance, and character. Each dale is ruled by a collection of leaders who all convene once a year to discuss updates from their dales and how to address issues collectively. Without a single governing body and the geography lending itself to delayed communication, the Dalelands have experienced numerous invasion attempts from the more industrialized nations. Besides valleys, the Dalelands are known for their sprawling woods, which connect to the ancient forest of Cormanthor.
Sembia
A young realm of sea travel and bustling trade that pursues territorial expansion. Merchant councils govern many of its cities, and its citizens relish the art of negotiation. Coins create friendships fast here, but a lack of coins easily destroys those bonds. Outside of Sembia’s coastal cities, the countryside boasts orchards, vineyards, and farms.
Cormyr
Co-established with the native elves and built on the slaughter of a tyrannical black dragon, Cormyr has long established itself with a legacy of chivalry and military might spanning 1461 years. The Obarskyr royal line has ruled since Cormyr’s founding and recently crowned the second-ever queen Raedra who has ushered in an era of peace and healing after a long war with Sembia.
The Sea of Fallen Stars and Dragonreach
The Sea of Fallen Stars is the largest inland sea in Faerun. It is home to many sunken cities, hidden treasures, stormy hazards, and ruthless pirates. The gulf that reaches into Cormyr is known as Dragonreach, as it reaches the great land of the Purple Dragon. Though patrolled by Suzail’s navy, the Dragonreach is not without its share of hazards, including smugglers, monsters, and difficult terrain.
